Michael Novinson reports in the Times Herald-Record the treasurer for Joel Tyner's campaign has resigned and accused the 19th District congressional candidate of misreporting campaign funds. While Tyner's disclosure statements indicated a June 6 balance of $8,500, Misha Fredericks said, in reality the campaign had less than $3,300 in the bank. Asked about Fredericks' allegations Tues., June 19, Tyner accused his former treasurer of character assasination, libel and political sabotage. Fredericks resigned from the campaign following the debate Monday between Tyner and opponent Julian Schreibman, and characterized Tyner's behavior during the event as "atrocious." According to Nathan Mayberg's account in the Register Star, Frederick denied an ulterior motive, and said concerns over more than $5,000 in unaccounted for funds led to her decision to resign. Frederick joined Tyner's campaign as a volunteer in April and immediately found accounting irregularities. Frederick announced her resignation in a letter to campaign staffers and some newspapers, including the Times Union. “I didn’t want to be investigated for embezzlement...,” she said. In other campaign news, David Lombardo reports at Capital Region Scene, retiring Congressman Maurice Hinchey has thrown his support behind Schreibman. In a statement released Tuesday, Hinchey called the Kingston attorney, the progressive voice the Hudson Valley and  Catskill regions deserve.
