Join the artists of the Solstice Sisters Collective for APOPHENIA, a pop-up exhibition responding to Pattern Recognition, William Gibson’s genre-blurring 2003 novel that reads like a premonition of our present moment. Equal parts mystery, media theory, and cultural diagnosis, the novel is a mystery without a villain, a thriller without action, a science fiction novel set in the now. Written in the shadow of 9/11, it unfolds in a world of secret networks, encrypted transmissions, and the hidden architectures of capitalism and power.
The participating artists mine its rich themes—global hyperconnection, authenticity, trauma, marketing, grief—to explore how contemporary consciousness is shaped by surveillance, symbolism, aesthetics, and desire. Works include video, installation, virtual reality, sculpture, drawing, and social practice. The show interrogates the architecture of longing and the quiet violence of commodified emotion.
In a time when everyone is seeking a signal in the noise—whether in art, in politics, or in them- selves—this exhibition asks: Are we decoding meaning, or projecting it? Are we resisting the system, or feeding it?
Tune into the “Wednesday Afternoon Show” for national news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, weather updates, and more about and for the community, made by volunteers in the community.
