Early voting begins Saturday, League of Women Voters monitoring for fairness

Oct 23, 2019 1:45 pm
Karen Dewittt is reporting for WRVO-FM the state's new early voting system begins October 26, and New York Attorney General Tish James this week led a rally in Manhattan to bring attention to the new law. Early voting allows registered voters to cast their ballot from October 26 through November 3, in advance of the November 5 general election. James said the additional days give voters the flexibility to vote when it’s more convenient for them. “They are not forced to choose between going to work or voting,” she said. “They are not forced to choose between caring for a sick family member or voting. And they are not forced to wait in line for hours.” The League of Women Voters has a survey on its website at LWV [dot] org that will ask voters in the coming days about their experiences with early voting, what they liked or did not like, and how it can be improved. The League will closely monitor early voting to make sure it is carried out fairly. While the 2019 elections are almost exclusively local, turnout is expected to be light. Next year, however, is a presidential election year, with much higher interest. Supporters of early voting hope any problems in New York's fledgling system can be worked out by then. Read the full story WRVO [dot] org.
