Delgado listens to budget views

Mar 22, 2019 12:11 am
Amanda Purcell reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Rep. Antonio Delgado did not solve the $22 trillion national debt at a workshop March 19 at Columbia-Greene Community College in Greenport. The exercise was co-hosted by the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan group, and Delgado with local citizens drawing up their own national budget proposals. Republican Greene County Legislator Michael Bulich was there, and said his budget reduced the deficit by $2.87 trillion over 10 years by reducing funding for homeland security and health care. Delgado, rather than talking about spending cuts, discussed overturning the tax cuts passed in 2017. “You can’t pay your debt down if you don’t have revenue,” Delgado said. “And what we did from my vantage point that was disturbing is we cut our revenue source. The vast majority of those cuts benefited individuals who didn’t need any help. That sort of handcuffed our capacity to spend smart, but more importantly, raise revenue for the purpose of spending smart.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
