Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media a proposed local law that would waive off-street parking requirements for Hudson landlords with living spaces in out-buildings and basements has been sent to the Legal Committee for further consideration after being rejected by the full Council. Common Council President Claudia DeStefano sent the measure back for additional review by the committee based on feedback received during a public hearing, November 13. The proposed law would waive the off-street parking requirement for studio apartments in basements and accessory buildings — a practice that is already being granted through a variance on a case-by-case basis by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Residents fear the measure would allow building owners to change accessory buildings into residential space without review by the Planning Board or the ZBA. The Legal Committee chair, 1st Ward Alderman Michael O’Hara, said he was ready to move forward with the law as is. “I don’t think there is anything that needs to be changed that would be done in the Legal Committee,” O’Hara said.
