New Cairo zoning accomodates commercial requests

Dec 02, 2010 11:10 am
CAIRO - Doron Tyler Antrim reports in today's Daily Mail that the Cairo Zoning Commission agreed Tuesday night to six preliminary changes to its draft zoning map — moves made in response to public comments asking for an expansion of those lands available for future commercial development. The seven-member group also cut out the town's sole industrial zone as unnecessary, and stopped at a greater expansion of commercial zones, which one of its members labeled "overkill," by expanding mixed use districts along the town's main corridors. The zoning commission’s next work meeting is set for Monday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in Cairo Town Hall where changes along the Route 23 corridor, as well as on the town's Main Street, will be on the agenda. The commission also announced recently that it’s extending the public comment period on the law until Jan. 10, 2011. Copies of the proposed law, Cairo's first (with many reghional eyes on how it flies) are on file in the town hall and public library at 512 Main Street. All the documents, as well as the public comments, can be viewed online at www.planningbetterplaces.com/cairo.
