Amanda Fries is reporting for the Times Union Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan’s proposed 2020 budget totals $179.58 million, an increase of roughly 1.4 percent, including 1 percent raises for the city's white collar workers. Sheehan presented the spending plan to city leaders October 1, at Albany City Hall. Overall, the proposed budget maintains existing city services and programs, anticipating increases in property tax, sales tax revenue and in payments-in-lieu-of-taxes and state aid to cover salary increases and the rising cost of healthcare and other benefits. Commercial property owners will see a small increase in their tax bills, but residential property owners will pay basically the same as last year. “I think what people can take away is we’ve been able to turn the ship,” Sheehan said of the proposed plan. Pete Demola is reporting in The Daily Gazette Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy presented his $89.4 million proposed 2020 budget to the city council September 30. The plan increases spending, gives the mayor a raise, and includes a small property tax cut for taxpayers. The budget includes funds for two new positions to help address the disintegrating city-owned infrastructure and an increase for needed management of city-owned properties. Officials said numerous trends are in the city’s favor, including a projected increase in casino revenue. In Hudson, city officials are at work on the city's 2020 spending plan. The Board of Estimate and Apportionment, made up of the mayor, city treasurer and Common Council president, is meeting in a series of workshops over the coming weeks. The city's 2019 spending plan totaled $11.67 million.
