COVID-19 cases continue to surge locally
Nov 30, 2020 6:33 am
On Nov. 29 Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the United States may see a “surge upon a surge” of the coronavirus over the coming weeks. While we have to wait to see if that prediction will pan out, there certainly is a local surge of COVID-19 locally right now. Columbia County health officials announced 18 more cases Nov. 27, ten more on Nov. 28, and six more on Nov. 29. The numbers will fluctuate this week because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Greene County, for instance, does not make weekend updates, and announced 19 new cases Nov. 27. Albany County coronavirus hospitalizations reached a new high Nov. 29, with 67 people currently hospitalized. Albany County Executive Dan McCoy also reported 90 new COVID-19 positive cases on Nov. 29, and another coronavirus death. The day before, McCoy reported six other deaths. The last time six people died in a single day from COVID-19 in Albany County was May 4. Albany County Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen said on Nov. 28 that there is a concern about "the capacity of our hospitals to be able to take care of people." The Rensselaer County Health Department on Nov. 29 announced 23 more cases of COVID-19, and another death.
