Residents pan Twilight Park wastewater facility plan
Anthony Fiducia is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the proposed $2 million Twilight Park wastewater treatment facility in Hunter is facing resistance from residents. Twilight Park is a private community of 92 cottages, and it is currently under consent order with the state Department of Environmental Conservation because the community's waste removal system is not in compliance with current standards. The Hunter Planning Board held its first public hearing on the project December 5. Residents present expressed concerns about the visual impact the project would have -- the facility would be visible upon approach up the mountain. A Twilight Park neighbor, said, “They want everything to be a certain way when you come up the mountain,” she said. “And now, it’s going to be a wastewater facility.” A resident of Tannersville, said, “I’d rather not have a wastewater treatment facility be along the highway as I drive up the mountain — I don’t think that’s a good place for it." Another Hunter resident speaking at the hearing said the facility would harm the town, especially since Route 23A is a scenic byway. The public hearing will remain open and continue as part of the Jan. 2 planning board meeting. Construction of the facility is set to begin in March. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
