Sale of Freeman parent company assets delayed

Digital First Media is reporting the sale of the assets of the Daily Freeman parent, Journal Register Company to 21st CMH Acquisition Corp. The delay came after a last-minute union vote that will allow the deal to move forward. The purchase was to have closed Tues., Apr. 2. Company employees received a two-sentence email Tuesday morning saying the closing process was expected to be finalized by week’s end. The agreement reached with the Newspaper Guild includes 11 cuts to the news and circulation staff at the Kingston-based Daily Freeman. Unionized employees had been braced for worse, including 15 percent across-the-board pay cuts. In addition to the Freeman, Journal Register also owns The Record, of Troy, the Oneida Daily Dispatch and the Saratogian.
