Ancram Town Board weighs 'unsafe' building law

Diane Valden provides an account in The Columbia Paper of the ongoing debate in the town of Ancram over a proposed law that would deal with dilapidated buildings. For some residents, passage of the law cannot come soon enough. For others the law is seen as unnecessary and patently discriminatory. Proposed Local Law #1 of 2014 would allow for the removal of unsafe buildings. Owners of the structures would be put on notice and told to rectify the problem. If the owner does not comply, the town would have the power to remove the structure and charge the cost of the tear down to the property owner. Town Supervisor Art Bassin told the crowd at a public hearing last week the Town Board may take three or four more months to decide the fate of the proposal. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
