Coeymans offers tax break to lure company

Bryan Rowzee in the Ravena News-Herald reports that the Coeymans Town Council Oct. 13 gave a tax break to attempt to lure Dockside Logistics, a Tennessee-based company that makes large-scale turbines, to the town. A five-year PILOT, or Payment in Lieu of Taxes, was voted for 4-1 to lease land from the Coeymans Recycling Center industrial park. "I am not typically a big fan of PILOTs, but this is a way to draw business to the area. We are competing with other areas like Nashville, France, etc. In order to do business, it is helpful to fix costs, including taxes," Councilman George Langdon said.
