Greene County celebrates county youth for their service

The Greene County Children, Youth and Community Advisory Board June 24, announced its 2021 Youth Awards. Paige Swartout, from Coxsackie-Athens High School, has been chosen 2021 Greene County Youth of the Year; Sarah Leipman, from Catskill High School, has received the Children, Youth and Community Advisory Board Chairman’s Choice Award and Scott Baker from Catskill High School has been awarded the Greene County Department of Human Services Director’s Choice Award. Swartout has volunteered in numerous ways at Carpenter Shop Outreach Center; the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Virginia, and Coxsackie Elementary School PTO. She has been a member of the town of Coxsackie Ambulance Juniors program since March 2020 and is certified in CPR and first aid.  As a student, she has achieved Honor Roll grades. Leipman was one of “Santa’s Helpers,” a program through Catskill High School that raises community funds used to buy food for needy families. She has served as part of the Catskill High School Student Government since 2015, has been involved in All-County Band, and played volleyball, basketball and softball since entering high school. Leipman is currently attending Questar III as a certified nursing student. Baker has been a volunteer for the Matthew 25 Food Pantry since he was in the 4th grade. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and took part in the annual Scouting for Food Program, and earned the organization's Arrow of Light. He made the Catskill High School Honor Roll, was involved in Student Government, belonged to the Business and Chess Clubs, and was a member of the wrestling team. Merit Recognition went to James Mutinsky of Cairo Durham High School, and Morgan Fancher of Windham-Ashland-Jewett School. The youth will be honored at the opening ceremonies of the Greene County Youth Fair at 9:30 a.m., Thu., July 25, at Angelo Canna Town Park in Cairo. Read more at greenegovernment [dot] com.
