Ulster, Greene cos. lost jobs in November, Columbia remained steady
Paul Kirby is reporting for the Daily Freeman the Ulster County job rate fell in November compared to the previous month and was down 5.1 percent compared to the same month in 2019, according to statistics released by the state Department of Labor. The county had fewer nonfarm jobs at the end of November 2020, than it had at the end of October. The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division finished November with 138,500 jobs, down 8.5 percent from November 2019. The area ended the month of October with more nonfarm jobs than in September. Nonfarm employment includes all positions in the private and public sectors, with the exception of those in agriculture. Greene County’s total shrank from 14,200 in October to 14,100 in November. The job rate fell 1.4 percent compared to November 2019. In Columbia County, the rate stayed the same in November as October at 20,500 jobs. However, it was a 5.1 percent decrease as compared to November 2019. The October 2019 totals in the two counties were 14,700 in Greene and 21,800 in Columbia. Statewide, nonfarm employment rose from just under 8,871,000 in October to 8,900,500 in November, the labor department said.
