Former East Greenbush superintendent suing school district
Sep 20, 2018 6:15 am
Rick Karlin is reporting for the Times Union former East Greenbush school superintendent Angela Nagle is suing the school district in federal court, seeking $3.9 million for lost wages and benefits, as well as unspecified damages for pain and suffering. Nagle alleges school board members discriminated against her based on her gender and her pregnancy. Since her contract as superintendent was not renewed in 2016, she has been unable to find employment and is now seeking mental health assistance. Her attorney, Ryan Finn said during opening arguments in the case, September 19, Nagle's life was "turned upside down," when, after a difficult pregnancy and the birth of premature twins, school board members began shunning her and let her go in 2016, after more than a decade of success with the district. “She’s blackballed,” Finn told jurors. “The reality is, as it stands right now, her career is over.” School district defense lawyers say they will present a different view, putting Nagle's credibility at the center of the case and calling into question her account of why the district let her go. By her own account, beginning in 2008, Nagle was instrumental in pulling the district out of a longstanding slump. But her status changed in the summer of 2014, when she disclosed she was pregnant with twins and was expecting a difficult birth. She alleges that was when things began to unravel. The trial is expected to run for at least two weeks. Read the full story in the Times Union.
