Norovirus transmission reported in Dutchess County

The Daily Freeman reports that several cases of the stomach ailment norovirus have been transmitted in Dutchess County, according to a Jan. 5 report from the county Department of Behavioral and Community Health. “Norovirus is a very contagious virus that can easily infect anyone,” said Dr. A.K. Vaidian, commissioner of the Department of Behavioral and Community Health. “It is easily spread through contact with people, food, water, or surfaces.” Norovirus can cause stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting within 12 to 48 hours after being exposed to the virus. Drinking liquids is the only recommendation for anyone getting the virus. Cleaning hands and food are recommended to avoid contracting the virus. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
