WRGB-TV is reporting when the Athens branch of the National Bank of Coxsackie reopens customers will be greeted by a new mural. Coxsackie artist Tom Nelson, during the two-month COVID-19 shutdown, completed the painting that interprets the nautical heritage of the Hudson Valley and the architecture of the Industrial Revolution. The mural measures 31 feet wide and more than 8 feet tall and shows the Hudson River, Mt. Merino, the Athens Light, the 1706 Jan Van Loon house and the 1893 Opera House. Bank officials believe the branch will be able to open again in the coming weeks. The bank is located at 1 South Washington Street in the village of Athens.
