Salvation Army still searching for new home

Feb 19, 2020 12:45 am
Abby Hoover is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Salvation Army in Hudson is still searching for a new home after the Galvan Foundation made other plans for the location promised to the nonprofit nearly five years ago. “We were under contract to have a brand new facility built out on lower Warren Street and the Galvan Foundation reneged on everything,” said Michael Molinski, a member of the Hudson Salvation Army Board of Directors. “They said, ‘That’s no longer on the table and we’re going to try to find a spot for you in the future.’” The Salvation Army continues to operate out of a 56 year-old, 1,456 square-foot building on South 3rd Street, but Galvan purchased the building in 2014, so the foundation is now the landlord. The board has discussed the possibility of renovating their current home and temporarily relocating across the street to the building that formerly housed the ÖR Bar, a space also owned by Galvan, but there are no pending plans, Molinski said. “They’re helping us look for an alternative, but at this point we don’t have one and we really need one,” Salvation Army Director Darcy Connor said. “We’re outgrowing this space rapidly." The Salvation Army maintains meal and food pantry programs, a back-to-school program, as well as an emergency assistance program. During the month of January, they served more than 2,200 people. The organization serves residents throughout Columbia and Greene counties. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
