Controversial legislator running for Saugerties Town Board

Patricia Doxsey is reporting for the Daily Freeman controversial Ulster County Legislator Joseph Maloney has now set his sights on a Saugerties Town Board seat. After announcing in February he would not seek re-election to a second term in the legislature, the registered Democrat has now been tapped by the Saugerties Conservative Party as a candidate for town board. The committee also nominated Paul Andreassen for town supervisor and Mike Ivino for town board. Maloney was a registered member of the Independence Party in 2017 when he ran on the Republican line for the Legislature's District 2 seat and defeated incumbent Democrat Chris Allen. Six months after being sworn in, Maloney officially registered as a Democrat, a move that gave that party a 12-11 majority in the legislature. In January, the county Board of Ethics fined Maloney $7,000 and recommended he be suspended without pay for three months for three violations of the county's Ethics Law relating to his wife's employment.
