Sandy spares mountaintop

Michael Ryan reports in The Daily Mail no significant damage or minor flooding was reported in the mountaintop towns of Windham and Prattsville this week, communities deeply impacted by Tropical Storm Irene last year. The same was true in the neighboring towns of Ashland, Lexington and Jewett. Some trees and branches were down, and power was lost for a few hours in some locations. The Schoharie Creek swelled, but no flooding occurred. Although pleased the storm missed them this time, some residents expressed empathy for the people in New Jersey and New York City. “It looks like us a year ago. I heard from a lot of people in Prattsville that they're ready to get on the bus to go down there and help,” one resident said. Read the full story in The Daily Mail.
