Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media after 18 consecutive years and more than $500,000 raised, organizers have decided to end to the annual Sean’s Run Weekend. The Board of Directors and Organizing Committee January 29, made the announcement on the organization’s website. “Our labor of love has run its course,” according to the statement. The event was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. “The pandemic forced the cancellation of Sean’s Run Weekend in 2020 and we do not anticipate that conditions will change to a level allowing the production of a 20th and final event of the scale and scope we prefer come spring 2021,” according to the statement. “We want Sean’s Run to be remembered as it was prior to the pandemic.” The event began in 2002 as an untimed 5K group run with 418 runners, in memory of Sean Patrick French, a 17-year-old Chatham High School junior who had died that year as a passenger in a drunk-driving car crash on Route 203 in Chatham. Sean’s Run participation took many forms, with the participants running, walking, biking and more, and thousands took part over the years. The annual event raised more than $500,000 for education programs and scholarships benefitting thousands of young people region wide. The event brought awareness to the dangers of underage drinking, impaired driving and failure of teens to use seat belts. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
