COVID-19 numbers rising again
Lauren Stanforth reports in the Times Union that COVID-19 is roaring back in upstate New York. Albany County, for instance, announced on Nov. 21 its sixth straight day with a COVID-19-related death. And new daily positive tests in Albany County are also in the triple digits. "With the holiday season underway, I am afraid we will continue to see this and a greater spike in new infections,” said Albany County Executive Dan McCoy in a statement. Albany County is now at 5.2 percent of tests coming back positive. While that number is high, compared to some other New York counties it is good news. Two weeks ago only one rural New York county had a seven-day percent positive test average of more than 10 percent. As of Nov. 21, 12 New York counties have more than 10 percent of tests coming back positive, including Washington County, which had the highest rate at 13.5 percent. "Many of our recent cases are originating from inside workplaces (employee to employee transmission), full household/family spread and at events held indoors in close quarters," Washington County officials said. Columbia County, meanwhile has seen numbers rise from 38 on Nov. 17 to 50 on Nov. 20, and 33 on Nov. 21. Read more about this story in the Times Union.
