Taconic Hills voters must prove they are ballot worthy

Diane Valden is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Taconic Hills School District has adopted a new system of voter registration, which requires those who wish to vote in school elections to prove they live within the district when they turn out to the polls. Beginning with the annual school board election and budget vote in May, those who claim residency must bring with them documents that bear their name and the physical address of the location "they call home for most of the year," Valden writes. The Taconic Hills Board of Education voted in June to replace personal registration with poll registration for all voters, and the change has been met with "indignation and questions." Among the documents the board has ruled constitute proof of residency: a NYS driver's license, learner's permit, Real ID, non-driver ID, federal or state tax returns. All must include the voter's physical address. The one document the board deemed unacceptable was a voter registration card issued by the Columbia County Board of Elections.
