As COVID-19 re-enters national spotlight, numbers tick up locally

As it was announced nationally this weekend that the President of the United States had COVID-19 and was in a military hospital, the largest outbreak of coronavirus in months was announced at municipal buildings, schools, and in daily county case counts locally. The Times Union reported 17 new coronavirus cases in Albany County on Oct. 4. The day before Albany County announced 23 new COVID cases. Rensselaer County reported six new cases and three hospitalizations, including one in intensive care on Oct. 2. On Oct. 4 Rensselaer County announced five more cases including a 47-year-old Troy man; a 40-year-old North Greenbush man; a 27-year-old Brunswick man; a 64-year-old Schodack man; and a 46-year-old East Greenbush man. The Greenville Central School District reported its first COVID-19 case on Oct. 2, and the total number of cases in Greene County went up from five to 13, between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2. And on Oct. 1, the Greene County Office Building in Catskill was closed until Oct. 5 after a building and grounds employee there tested positive. Greene County did not announce any COVID-19 information on Oct. 3 or Oct. 4, but Columbia County announced two new cases Oct. 3, for 14 active in total. Columbia County is doling out flu shots for citizens from 9-11 a.m., Oct. 8, at Palantine Park in Germantown.
