Gillibrand calls for ban on inclined sleepers

Ellen Moynihan and Clayton Guse are reporting for the Daily News Democrat Sen. Kristen Gillibrand of New York, October 27, called for a ban on baby sleepers that put children at an incline, citing a federal Consumer Product Safety Commission survey conducted this month. That study found that at least 73 infant deaths since 2011 have been connected to inclined sleep devices. The National Retail Federation did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In addition to supporting a strict ban on inclined baby sleepers, Gillibrand also supports requiring hospitals to give new parents baby bundles, which would include essentials like diapers and a safe sleeping surface. Millions of inclined baby sleepers have been recalled this year by Fisher-Price, SwaddleMe and other companies. Gillibrand said the danger requires the federal government to step in.
