Germantown selling surplus ammunition to county sheriff's office

Oct 11, 2018 3:00 pm
Logan Weiss is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Germantown Town Board October 9 voted to sell firearms and surplus ammunition from the town's defunct police department to the Columbia County Sheriff's office. The town will sell approximately 5,800 rounds for an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle and 40 boxes of shotgun shells. The town board decision was unanimous. “We brokered with a federal gun dealer,” Germantown Supervisor, Rob Beaury said. “It’s fairly substantial. We have an invoice for $307 per case...I don’t know what we are going to get for 10 unopened and two open cases [of AR-15 ammunition]...,” Beaury said. Germantown already sold two shot guns and one AR-15 to the sheriff’s office in September. The town board donated a second AR-15 to the sheriff’s Public Resource Officer program, and 140 gun locks, as well. The Germantown police department was dissolved in August. Citizens submitted a petition putting the decision to abolish the department up for a public referendum on November 6. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
