Catskill reviewing comprehensive plan

Feb 07, 2019 12:45 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Town of Catskill will review its comprehensive plan, after one resident asked for a moratorium on the issuance of new planning board permits at a town meeting Feb. 5. Rosana Thompson wanted the town to review the comprehensive plan, and halt all projects, matching the Village of Catskill, which currently has a moratorium. Thompson does not like two projects currently before the town's planning board: The Kaaterskill, a hotel on High Falls Road that wants a special-use permit to host weddings, and Piaule Landscaping Retreat on Mossy Hill Road, that has plans for 20 mini-cabins and a main house. “I realized the issue is much bigger than that [those two projects],” Thompson said. “We are at risk of losing the beauty and tranquility of the area. We want to make sure Catskill grows to its full potential and beauty.” Town Councilman Patrick McCulloch was against a moratorium. “All the work at Exit 21 would have to stop,” he said. “I would be cautious on a moratorium.” The Greene County Industrial Development Agency is trying to replace the Quality Inn at the Interstate Thruway Exit 21 with a new hotel. The Catskill town board will start work on revising the plan at its March meeting. Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
