Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper Valatie Mayor Diane Argyle March 9 announced the sale of both the US Hotel and the former Trolley Station on Main Street in the village, putting both properties back on the tax rolls. The meeting was Argyle's last as mayor — she has served since 2013 and chose not to run for reelection last month. The village Local Development Corporation bought the US Hotel building in 2012. That transaction included the Trolley Station at the intersection of Main and Kinderhook (Route 9) streets. The plan at the time was for the property to remain an apartment building with the village LDC as the landlord. The Trolley Station has been office space. The LDC encountered problems along the way and the village took legal action to take possession of the properties. At the March 9 meeting, Argyle said the sale of the Main Street buildings had finally gone through and there was interest in another property on River Street, which the village put up for sale last summer. She also announced the village can now move forward with the dissolution of the LDC. In her final remarks to the board, Argyle advised village officials to look into zoning regulations for short-term rentals like the ones offered on the Airbnb website. She said there are several planned for properties in the village. Argyle also pointed out that construction at the hydro station on Route 203 by the company that bought the property will be completed soon, and the developers plan to have a grand opening at some point.
