Tornado touches down in Copake

Joe Gentile reports in the Register Star a tornado was reported 12 miles south of Hudson, near Copake, Tues., May 21. Initial field reports indicated the tornado headed east, toward Great Barrington, Mass., at approximately 35 mph. A spokesperson for Columbia County 911 said no injuries were reported, but power lines and trees were felled by the storm. Quarter-sized hail was reported in Kinderhook and Chatham. National Weather Service investigators are expected to visit Copake in the coming days to survey the damage, and to determine if it was actually the byproduct of the reported tornado.
