We will have reports every hour from NORAD tracking Santa Claus, in between the sounds of bells, winter, and more. Plus some carols. And WGXC will feature past recordings of holiday classics, experiments, and other famous radio shows, from Bob Lassiter, and other. Lots of WGXC hosts will wander in and out with their say on the holidays, with excerpts or entire shows from Jim McCabe, Karen Schoemer and Sam Sebren, Tony Fallon, Dan Seward, Andrew Sosnowski, and others. Laurence Olivier and Tom Lehrer will stop by for "A Christmas Carols." Gather around the radio to hear Spike Jones singing "Jingle Bells," Run DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" and Christopher Hitchens disparaging the very notion. Plus special holiday fare such as Phil Kline's "Unsilent Night."

"Unsilent Night" is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music in the form of a cassette, CD, or Mp3. Together all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. The fact that the participants play different "parts" simultaneously helps create the special sound of the piece. Participants carry boomboxes, or anything that amplifies music, and simultaneously start playing the music. They then walk a carefully chosen route through their city’s streets, creating a unique mobile sound sculpture which is different from every listener's perspective.

We are trying to begin a holiday tradition here in Greene and Columbia counties, and would appreciate your input. Send WGXC your ideas for Christmas Eve programming to info@wgxc.org.
