Nick Reisman reports for New York State of Politics that New York's Working Families Party may go extinct with the state's new campaign finance laws announced Nov. 25. Political parties would have to receive two percent of the total vote, or 130,000 votes every two years, whichever is higher, to stay on the ballot. That's much higher than the current 50,000-vote threshold in a gubernatorial election for minor parties to achieve a ballot line, and more votes than the Working Families Party currently receives. “The extreme increase in ballot qualification requirements are a clear abuse of state power to advance the Governor’s political agenda,” said Working Families Party State Director Bill Lipton. New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo has feuded with the Working Families Party for a decade, and appointed the leader of the panel making the campaign rules changes.
