Radio station buys TV tower

Dec 23, 2017 5:19 pm
Clarence Fanto reports in The Berkshire Eagle that WAMC just bought an antenna tower on Mount Graylock in Massachusetts for "slightly above $1 million," according to the radio station, from television station WTEN. But station listeners will pay the cost, as one of its three annual, usually one-million dollar, pledge drives will now be a two-million dollar pledge drive. WTEN, the Channel 10 Albany television station, received $34.5 million for its public frequency, auctioning its WCDC Channel 19 relay signal to wireless carriers recently. That means, an estimated 1,500 viewers in remote towns such as Savoy, New Ashford, and Washington can't receive the television station since it shut down Dec. 1. For radio listeners, though, nothing changes with the transaction. Read the full story in The Berkshire Eagle.
