Hudson Development Corp. changes voting practice to comply with the law

Apr 24, 2019 4:00 pm
Amanda Purcell is reporting the Columbia-Greene Media the Hudson Development Corporation has modified its secret ballot process to comply with the state Open Meetings Law. The HDC last month elected new members to its board of directors, then former city attorney Ken Dow questioned the legality of the secret ballot process used by the board. The ballots submitted were unsigned. “We thought we did a good job, but we missed a couple of things,” he said. To comply with state law, and in response to Dow’s Freedom of Information request, Rasner asked board members to sign the previously submitted ballots. Nine of the 10 ballots received last month were signed this week. In the future, ballots will be made available for the public to view at the HDC office, by appointment, Rasner said. At its meeting this week, the board officially added Phil Forman as a new member, to fill out the board of directors. Forman is the chairman of the Hudson Preservation Commission and former chairman of the city’s Board of Assessment Review. Rasner announced the board will now resume its old meeting time — at noon on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
