Regional sites recommended for historic status
The Times Union is reporting the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended the addition of four Capital Region properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. New Lebanon District No. 8 School, also known as New Lebanon Grange No. 851, is located on Columbia Turnpike. Built in 1870, the brick building served as a school and later as a Grange Hall for the farming community. The building now houses the Roaring 20s Brewery and Taphouse. Also named: the Church Hill Historic District in Saratoga County on the north side of the Mohawk River, includes a remaining section of the Halfmoon Aqueduct, which once carried the Erie Canal across the Mohawk; the Fitzgerald Building in Schenectady, was once home to Fitzgerald Business College, which trained workers for General Electric and other firms; and Park Mart, in downtown Albany, is a concrete parking garage and grocery store built in 1973, and was associated with the city's urban renewal programs. A registry listing can support owners in revitalizing properties, making them eligible for various public preservation programs and services. Read more in the Times Union.
