Amanda Purcell reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the minor train accident in Stuyvesant Nov. 21 will not be investigated by the National Traffic Safety Board. The independent federal agency investigates rail, highway, marine and pipeline accidents, but not this Amtrak incident. “We have certain criteria that we follow,” according to a National Transportation Safety Board statement on Nov. 22. “There was no derailment and no injuries, and, based on that, we are not investigating.” The Adirondack Train No. 68 uncoupled 17 miles south of Albany on its trip from Montreal to New York City. Passengers were transferred to a different train. “The cars involved in the incident have been moved to the maintenance facility in Albany for a full inspection and further investigation to find the cause of the separation,” according to Amtrak. “The locomotive event data recorder has been downloaded, and data retrieved show the train was operating within the authorized speed.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
