New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and 14 other Senators announced Tuesday, Dec. 13, that the U.S. Postal Service has agreed on a five-month moratorium on closing postal facilities. The Senators promise, in the meantime, to pass postal reform legislation to allow the post office, to maintain service. “The U.S. Postal Service plays a vital role in every community,” Senator Gillibrand said. “In New York, more than 1000 jobs, 100 post offices and seven Area Mail Processing centers will continue serving their communities while Congress works on reforming the postal service to ensure its survival.” The Postal Service is also considering eliminating Saturday service.
