MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting as part of one of Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan’s five major priorities for a Green New Deal for the county, he is committing to dedicate nearly $2.8 million to both the Department of the Environment and a series of green capital upgrades. One of Ryan’s first acts as county executive was signing an order committing the county to use 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030; these financial investments put the county ahead of schedule to meet that goal. “We can and must do more to lead the transition away from fossil fuels and these types of investments not only promote a more sustainable future but they also do so while creating jobs, being fiscally responsible, and enhancing the quality of life for our communitie, Ryan said.” Amanda Lavalle, Director of the Ulster County Department of the Environment said the county has been recognized by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its commitment to renewable energy. “This year’s budget will promote a greener future and will continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the County’s 45 buildings, 450 vehicles and three dozen buses,” Lavalle said.
