Cuomo claims weather driving New Yorkers away

Sep 26, 2018 11:56 pm
David Lombardo reports in Capitol Confidential that with New York leading the nation in total out-migration last year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo implied Sept. 25 that bad weather was driving residents away. About 190,000 New Yorkers left for other states last year, most from upstate, according to U.S. census data. “People will make demographic choices about where they want to live,” Cuomo said. “Some of them are climate based, right. Some of them are based for personal reasons.” Independent gubernatorial candidate Stephanie Miner called Cuomo's statement "out of touch.... If he talked to people who actually live in Upstate New York, he would know they’re seeing their neighbors and kids move away because of high taxes and lack of opportunity,” she said.
