Leadership in both counties sworn in

Katie Kocijanski is reporting in The Daily Mail the Greene County Legislature held its first meeting of the year, Mon., Jan. 4. The legislative chamber in the county building in Catskill was filled, as the audience watched friends and family take the oath of office, some for the first time. Greenville Republican Kevin Lewis was reappointed the Legislature's chairman. Republican William Lawrence, who represents the town of Cairo, will serve as majority leader. Democrat Harry Lennon, also of Cairo, was appointed minority leader for the term. Other appointments included Angelo Scaturro as the county's public defender and David Dorpfeld as Greene County Historian. Roger Hannigan Gilson reports, across the river, Stockport Town Supervisor Matt Murell was elected the new chairman of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. Murell, a Republican and the board’s former deputy chairman, was also sworn in on Monday, along with new and re-elected supervisors at the board’s organizational meeting in Hudson. Murell follows Kinderhook Town Supervisor Pat Grattan, who served four years in the board's top spot. On Monday, Grattan was elected by Republicans to serve as majority leader. Hudson 4th Ward Supervisor William Hughes Jr. will serve as minority leader. Stuyvesant Town Supervisor Ron Knott and Canaan Town Supervisor Richard Keaveney were appointed deputy chairmen of the board. Other appointments include Robert J. Fitzsimmons as Columbia County attorney, Robert Linville as public defender, and Kenneth J. Flood as commissioner of planning and economic development.
