Excessive force claim in $13 million lawsuit against Greene County Sheriff

Jun 18, 2019 12:46 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Ryan Bruckman is suing the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for $13 million after his arm was broken during an arrest by two deputies at last year’s Taste of Country music festival in Hunter. Bruckman, who then lived in Saugerties but now claims Greene County residency, says Sheriff’s deputies John Del Vecchio and Raymond Feml used excessive force against him at the festival on June 11, 2018. The suit was filed this June 5 in U.S. District Court. Bruckman’s attorney said there is a video that shows Bruckman was not violent and did not resist arrest. In all, Greene County; the Greene County Sheriff; Del Vecchio and Feml; Townsquare Media; Green Mountain Concert Services; Contemporary Concert Services Corporation; and two unknown others are all named as defendants. Greene County Sheriff Greg Seeley said, “The alleged incident wasn’t caused by the sheriff’s office.... We only got involved at the end.” Charges against Bruckman -- disorderly conduct and resisting arrest -- were dismissed, as were charges against his brother, Robert Bruckman, and a friend, Mason Curtiss. “Once the video came to light, the charges were dismissed,” Bruckman’s attorney Michael Conway said June 17.
