Nick Reisman reports at New York State of Politics that New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said Dec. 3 that Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a “vague reference” to the Joint Commission on Public Ethics in a conversation with the governor earlier this year. But Heastie was not specific if the "vague reference" was to a secret vote by the state's ethics commission. “With this governor, at some point, it was like listening to Charlie Brown’s teacher,” Heastie said. “It was a vague reference and I let it go and I moved on with my life and it never surfaced again until we started getting calls on it.... I don’t think the governor said anything to me that was inappropriate.” The Times Union reported last month that Cuomo spoke with Heastie about a vote by commissioners over whether to investigate Joe Percoco, a former close aide to the governor who was convicted in a bribery and bid-rigging case. The inspector general’s office released a report last week saying it could not verify that charge. Cuomo and Heastie, though, were not interviewed for that report.
