Still no regulations on short-term rentals in Hudson

Dec 19, 2019 12:49 am
Amanda Purcell reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Hudson Common Council did not override Mayor Rick Rector's veto of a nine-month moratorium for short-term rentals Dec. 17, as four Common Council members flipped their previous votes on the issue. Eileen Halloran and Dominic Merante of the 5th Ward, and Rich Volo of the 4th Ward and Rob Bujan of the 1st Ward, voted for the moratorium previously, then voted against the legislation this week. The moratorium was meant to give the Common Council time to consider regulations on short-term rentals, similar to those being passed lately in many other Hudson Valley communities. There was an exchange during the Dec. 17 Hudson meeting between the main force behind the moratorium, John Rosenthal of the 4th Ward, and Volo. “You voted for it the first time,” Rosenthal said. Volo replied: “Well, things have changed.” But the story does not detail what changed for Volo, or Halloran, Merante, and Bujan. What will change soon is the makeup of the Common Council, with new representatives and a new mayor Jan. 1, when Rosenthal said he will re-introduce the legislation.
