The Daily Freeman is reporting U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand visited southern Ulster County, Mon., Jul. 10, to promote her “Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Prevention, Education and Research Act.” The act became law in December, as part of the 21st Century Cures Act, but has not yet been put into effect. What's more, Gillibrand said, President Donald Trump’s proposed 22 percent funding cut for the National Institutes of Health “could decrease critical Lyme disease research for prevention, diagnosis and treatment.” According to CDC statistics provided by Gillibrand, there were 41,229 reported cases of Lyme disease in New York state in the 10-year period from 2005 to 2015. In 2015 alone, there were more than 3,200 Lyme cases diagnosed statewide. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
