Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Hudson Development Corporation is looking to get into the boat-storage business, at least for the time being. At the corporation's August 27 meeting, board member Nick Haddad suggested charging boat owners $250 to store their watercraft in the former Kaz Inc., warehouse, located on Montgomery Street in the city's First Ward. Haddad suggested using the building, which is owned by HDC and off the tax rolls, for boat storage while the corporation works out a long-term plan for the property. Owners would move the boats in and out of the building. “We have a lot of room,” Haddad said. The boat owners would accept liability in case their boats are damaged in a fire or other disaster, Board of Commissioners President Bob Rasner said. The space would have to be cleaned out by the end of October, for the plan to be implemented. In addition, the owners of two neighboring properties have expressed interest in renting space from HDC for parking. “If everything goes as planned we should expect something in the area of $3,000 a month in steady income from a combination of the two agreements,” board member Phil Forman said.
