Catskill moves forward on Leeds sewer district

William J. Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman the Catskill Town Board has authorized borrowing $500,000 to pay for the initial work needed to form a sewer district for the hamlet of Leeds. At a board meeting Tues., Oct. 1, officials said they hope to see land surveys under way before the end of the year. The sewer system has been estimated to cost more than $8 million, but officials said that figure could change based on engineering reports. Consultants expect that a sewer district can be formed early next year in an area where the state Department of Environmental Conservation has threatened to fine some business owners over septic system violations.
