Saugerties town board delays pipeline vote

Jan 23, 2015 6:59 am
Brian Hubert is reporting in the Daily Freeman more than three dozen town residents opposed to the proposed Pilgrim Pipeline were present Wed., Jan. 21, for the Saugerties Town Board meeting, but the board took no action in relation to the plan. Town Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel said town officials want more time to learn about the project before considering a resolution. The 178-mile pipeline would carry crude oil along the Thruway from Albany to Linden, N.J., and refined products back north. Helsmoortel assured the crowd town officials are taking the proposal seriously. Ulster County Legislator Mary Wawro announced her opposition to the plan, and noted the county Legislature is considering a resolution concerning the proposal. Legislator Chris Allen, who represents the hamlets of Barclay Heights and Malden and the village of Saugerties, also said he is opposed to the pipeline. The Kingston Common Council in early January unanimously adopted a resolution in opposition to the Pilgrim Pipeline proposal. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
