Hudson Valley digs out from snow storm

Dec 03, 2019 11:55 pm
Melanie Lekocevic and Amanda Purcell report for Columbia-Greene Media that National Guard troops helped dig out Hudson and Chatham from an enormous December snowfall that shut down much activity in the Hudson Valley for three days. The snowfall began Sunday afternoon and ended early Tuesday. The reporters tallied the local snowfall totals: "In Columbia County, Austerlitz received 17 inches of snow; Kinderhook, 14 inches; Livingston, 14 inches; Canaan, 13 inches; and Ancramdale, 11.4 inches. In Greene County, the snowfall totals were slightly higher with Greenville Center at 20.5 inches; West Kill, 15 inches; Catskill, 14.2 inches; and Halcott Center, 13 inches." There were just 49 power outages in Greene County and none in Columbia County. Most of the problem now is moving that heavy snow off of vehicles, driveways, and sidewalks. Temperatures are not expected to rise much above freezing until next week, so there will not be much natural help with snow removal. Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
