The Daily Freeman is reporting U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado has launched a survey to gather information from upstate residents about mail delivery delays they might be experiencing and their concerns about the future of the U.S. Postal Service. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, appointed in May, has made major operational changes to the postal service during the COVID-19 pandemic that have contributed to significant mail delivery delays across the country, and undermined the American people’s confidence in a 245-year-old institution, according to Delgado's office. Residents can take Delgado’s survey online at delgado [dot] house [dot] gov. On August 22, Delgado voted with the House majority to pass the "Delivering for America Act," a bill which would prohibit the postal service from making any changes that impede prompt and reliable service during the COVID-19 pandemic, and requires the postal service to reverse any initiatives that have slowed the service of mail. The legislation is intended to stabilize the postal service at a time when many Americans are relying on home deliveries and the mail service more than ever, and to prevent any targeted structural changes that would weaken the agency and discourage Americans from voting by mail in the the coming weeks.
