Art Along the Hudson membership discussed

[/caption]The City of Hudson is considering whether or not to rejoin the regional Art Along the Hudson group, which pools funds from a dozen communities up and down the river for joint advertising, radio spots, and a brochure that publicizes the coordinated openings in each community on sequenced Saturdays. The Register-Star reports that at a city Arts & Tourism committee meeting last Thursday, February 3, Karen Davis of the Davis Orton Gallery asked if the city could rejoin Kingston, Beacon, Woodstock, New Paltz and Rhinebeck, among other towns, in the effort. She noted that Hudson had been featured in the publication three years ago and it’s “come a long way since then,” for a price expected to rise to $2,000 for the year. She said she’d need a funding commitment by March 1, and said she’s been asking various art galleries and venues in the city to contribute between $50 and $100 each to the cause. She said her goal is for 40 to 50 percent of the money to be raised by arts venues, leaving the city to contribute $1,000 to $1,200, or 50 to 60 percent of the funding needed. Davis added that she's also reserved the domain name artsinhudson.com. The committee did not give Davis a solid commitment on joining because there was no money left in its budget, but suggested she consult with the Hudson Development Corporation. Others questioned whether it made sense to only list paying galleries for such an effort. Now, on to getting Catskill to join up as well, an effort being discussed but not yet formalized.
