Melanie Lekocevic reports for Columbia-Greene Media that on April 26 New Baltimore became the last town in Greene and Albany counties to pass a municipal consent resolution for the Champlain Hudson Power Express transmission line to be installed. But it was not exactly easy to get approval from New Baltimore officials for the power line that would be in an existing right of way alongside the CSX railroad track and would bring the town $120,000 a year. Some residents had questions first. “We don’t know where this damn thing is going,” said town resident Ellie Alfeld, who owns property near the railroad tracks, where the transmission line is going. "What can New Baltimoreans expect to get out of it?” Alfeld asked, about the $120,000 a year. Then the resolution was unanimously adopted by the town board. “Sometimes David has to challenge Goliath,” resident James Eckl said as he left the meeting, even though in this case David lost. “We did struggle like a fish on a line, but that’s all we were — a fish on a line,” Town Supervisor Jeff Ruso said.
